There is a website that will help you evaluate your risk of gum disease. The American Academy of Periodontology web site, www.perio.org, has an interactive questionnaire that helps you identify your risk for developing periodontal (gum) disease. You can also find articles on the website that explain the causes of gum disease that sneaks up on a large percentage of the population. I say "sneaks up" because early stages of gum disease are painless and often ignored until the disease causes symptoms.

Gum disease can progress to a difficult stage to treat and cause extensive dental problems. Research indicates it may be a factor in heart disease and other systemic problems. Preventing and treating this disease is a very high priority for our team.
